Building Spaces for Artists
Rumpun is an art collective based in Japan dedicated to creating opportunities for artists connected to Indonesia. What began as an open-call exhibition featuring 50 artists from Indonesia and Japan at KocoGarden, Yokohama, has grown into a platform that encourages artistic exchange, collaboration, and visibility. The exhibition was developed in partnership with ITOMA and the Keio University Graduate School of Media Design, later resulting in an academic paper presented at a conference in Japan.

Connecting Communities Through Art
Rumpun has expanded beyond a single exhibition into a growing network of artists, researchers, students, and creatives. Through exhibitions and community initiatives across Tokyo, Yokohama, Fukuoka, and Beppu, the collective creates intersections between different cultures, disciplines, and lived experiences. Each project serves as a meeting point where people can share stories, perspectives, and creative practices across borders.

Making Art More Accessible
At its core, Rumpun is driven by the belief that art should be accessible to everyone. The contemporary art world can often feel exclusive and difficult to enter, particularly for emerging artists without established networks or formal training. By lowering barriers to participation and creating welcoming exhibition spaces, Rumpun seeks to help more people gain confidence in their creative practice, showcase their work publicly, and proudly identify themselves as artists.
