Arifureru/凡/Mundanity
about.
Arifureru focuses on the mundanity of everyday life, exploring the quiet stories, familiar objects, and small moments that often go unnoticed. The word arifureru means something common or ordinary, while the kanji 凡 (bon) are commonly perceived as something negative. The intention is for people to see that something that are commonly seen as ordinary may be perceived as dull but we want to share that there are the extraordinaries in the ordinary.
The exhibition features 9 groups of artists from Indonesia and Japan, exploring different perspectives on what mundanity means to them. The artworks are printed on chiffon fabric, allowing the colors to breathe and change depending on how visitors view the work. Through different angles, movements, and interactions, visitors can discover new colors and interpretations within each piece.

Flip Pages
Each artist is represented by a kanji created to reflect their work and translated into a stamp. Inspired by the familiar yet often unnoticed presence of hanko stamps in Japanese daily life, these marks become a personal symbol for each artist. The stamps are printed on flip pages using tracing paper, allowing visitors to experience the artwork through touch and movement, following where the ink begins and ends.
The flip pages also include each artist’s statement, biography, and personal interpretation of mundanity, creating a space where visitors can connect with the artists beyond the artwork itself.

Website.
With artists from Southeast Asia and Japan, Arifureru aims to make the exhibition accessible beyond physical spaces through an interactive website. The digital experience follows the same content and layout as the physical exhibition, allowing visitors to explore the works from anywhere.
The interactive elements are recreated from objects found within the exhibition, using photographs taken by the artists themselves. These details become small entry points for visitors to discover the artworks and stories behind each piece.
To extend the experience further, all written materials from the exhibition are also available through SoundCloud as a free audio guide. Visitors can listen to the artists’ statements, stories, and perspectives while experiencing the exhibition online or revisiting it in their own way.
